Operation: Varsity Blues (Netflix Original Documentary)

In the latter portion of 2020, Elastic gave me the opportunity to work on Operation: Varsity Blues for Netflix.

I worked on the main title sequence and graphics throughout the film that portray Rick Singer attempting to use Photoshop to manipulate photos of students being more athletic than they were in order to secure spots in prestigious colleges. I also worked on some of the graphics that portray the FBI tracking his criminal behaviour.

I used a combination of design, animation, and in-camera capture to create the look of the screen effect in the main title sequence. I adapted a legacy Zeiss Contax 35-70mm macro lens to my camera and recorded the animations at an ultra macro level from a high res display to get the true pixelation and voyeuristic feel of ‘watching Rick do a bad thing’, sort of a view from the perspective of the FBI.

The film topped out at #3 on Netflix's Top 10.
